This year, within the framework of the action “Let’s Make Ukraine Clean!” the volunteers and activists cleaned the banks of the Meresnyy river in Mykulychyn village. The event was joined by the staff of the Carpathian National Nature Park, community activists and the sixth grade students of secondary school in Mykulychyn under the guidance of biology teacher Martha Kyselyuk and representatives of the Mykulychyn village council who have undertaken to take out the collected garbage.

The main goal of the action was not just to clean up the area of solid waste, but also draw attention of children and adults to the problem of water pollution. For better understanding of the severity of the problem a practical eco-lesson in the open air was conducted for children who participated in the event. During it the students realized how the quality of drinking water in the source is deteriorating and what threats it poses to health. These are the key questions in the “Providing Equal Rights to Water and Sanitation” project by the Swedish Agency for International Development (SIDA). In addition, regional manager of the campaign “Let’s Make Ukraine Clean!” provided the participants of the action with the required set of materials: gloves and garbage bags. Due to the joint efforts about 2 km of coast.

Remember that the purity of water depends on us. It is clean not where they clean, but where they do not litter.
